Blue/Silver Group Coach: Branden Graf

This group is designed for advanced swimmers between the ages of 11 and 14. The Blue group is an excellent fit for swimmers who have developed a firm foundation of basic swimming proficiencies in all four strokes and are ready to make more of a commitment to the sport of swimming. A desire to improve and a willingness to take the steps necessary for competitive progress are expected of all athletes in this group. USA Swimming sanctioned competitions are offered throughout the year and swimmers of this group will work towards Michigan Swimming Age Group State Championships (Q1 Time Standards).

As swimmers progress through the Blue Group, they are encouraged to make more of a commitment to swimming prior advancing to the Gold Group. Proper stroke technique is emphasized, along with speed work, interval training, and aerobic & anaerobic conditioning. Depending on the time of the season, 90 to 120 minute sessions are offered five times per week.

Other training includes dryland and stretching exercises, teaching the importance of daily practice habits, and swimmer-coach conferences on goal setting and evaluating progress in monthly competitions. Blue swimmers will be required to have One-Star Training Standards and seventy five percent practice attendance is required. Workout equipment must consist of: goggles, snorkel, kickboard, pull buoy, fins, and mesh bag.
